Explore the art of fingerstyle guitar in this 8 week series. This class is perfect for intermediate players who feel at home with basic chords and have some years of playing guitar under their belt, but want to take their skills further by diving into the nuances of fingerpicking. Each session is designed to build your understanding, starting with the basics and gradually introducing more advanced techniques.

• Prerequisites:

  • Ability to transition between cowboy chords with ease (C, F, G, D, A, E)

  • Several years of playing guitar

  • Ability to read tablature is not required, but would be beneficial

• Who: 18 years+

Level: Proficient Beginner - Intermediate

Dates: Tuesdays 7:00-8:15pm, October 20 - December 8

If you love the timeless sounds of Hank Williams, Buck Owens, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, and Johnny Cash, this class is for you. Designed for musicians who are comfortable on their instrument, this class is all about learning to play classic country music in a group setting. We'll build a repertoire of tried-and-true country songs while sharpening the skills that make a band sound tight: solid rhythm, listening, tasteful fills, backing up singers, and stepping into instrumental breaks with confidence. Pull up a chair cause we've got some boot scootin’ songs to play!

• Prerequisites:

  • Play one of the core acoustic roots instruments: guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, upright bass, dobro, pedal steel, or another instructor-approved instrument

  • Ability to transition between basic chords with relative ease

  • Comfort keeping a steady rhythm and following chord progressions by ear or from a simple chord chart

• Who: 18 years+

Level: Intermediate-Advanced

When: Wednesdays 7:00-8:15pm, October 21 - December 16 (Skips Thanksgiving week)

This 8 week course is for bluegrass musicians who have learned the basics of one or more bluegrass instruments and are able to play along at jams, but who are also ready to take their involvement in bluegrass to a deeper level. Still relatively new to the world of bluegrass, our target audience is eager to have a deeper understanding of the structures of bluegrass music, a broader understanding of repertoire, and a better understanding of how bluegrass musicians communicate and play different roles within a jam or band. This is a class about building community through knowledge and expertise.

• Pre-requisites:

  • Intermediate-Advanced playing on one of the core bluegrass instruments (guitar, upright bass, fiddle, banjo, dobro, mandolin)

  • Ability to play along at jams on one or more bluegrass instruments

  • Desire to listen extensively to bluegrass repertoire on a weekly basis

  • Willingness to lead and sing a song during a class jam

• Who: 18 years+

Level: Beginner - Advanced

This 8-week course is designed to help you recognize and sing duet harmonies while exploring the music theory behind why harmonies work. In each class, we will learn a collection of bluegrass, folk, and country harmonies. As The Folk Farm’s longest-standing and most popular class, this course creates a warm, communal environment where singers can grow in confidence and connection. You’ll strengthen your vocal technique, expand your duet repertoire, and discover the unique creative freedom that duet singing offers. No duet partner is required, just a willingness to share your voice, whether you’re a beginning or advanced singer.

• Pre-requisites:

  • Beginning to advanced level of experience singing

  • Willingness to share your voice

  • You do not need a duet partner to be a part of this class

• Who: 18 years+
