The Folk Farm offers private lessons with our founder, Michaela Mae, and one of our group class teachers, Christine Wilhoyte. Lessons are rooted in the traditions of folk, Americana, country, and bluegrass.

Holding over 25 years of vocal study experience, Michaela’s lessons combine knowledge of the anatomy of the voice to build strength, agility, and ease with somatic techniques to help students sing with authenticity and expressiveness. Through a kind, thoughtful, and precise teaching style, Michaela empowers her students to explore their creativity and develop their unique voice as singers and songwriters.

As a piano and guitar teacher, Michaela blends essential theory with a repertoire of songs that students choose themselves. Through contemporary styles and American Roots music, students not only grasp the fundamentals, but also develop a deep appreciation for the music they love.

Christine offers instruction from beginning to advanced 3 finger (bluegrass) style banjo, beginning to intermediate clawhammer style banjo, and beginning to advanced rhythm and flat picking style guitar.
Lessons are approachable, personalized, and fun - designed to empower you to be your best musical self and to play comfortably in group settings.
