Mandolin Workshop with Scott Gates (Sept 27th, 2026)

$45.00

Join phenomenal mandolinist and multi-instrumentalist Scott Gates for a deep dive into one of the most important parts of great mandolin playing: right-hand technique.

Described as a fun-loving and remarkable musician, Scott Gates is yet another product of the California Bluegrass youth movement. He has been playing mandolin, guitar, and singing hard core bluegrass since before he was ten years old. He was a core member of the bluegrass group AJ Lee and Blue Summit for 10 years, and is a popular instructor for the next wave of California bluegrass talent. If and when you see him play live, you will not forget it.

In this workshop, Scott will break down the mechanics of the picking hand and explore how small adjustments in technique can make a huge difference in your sound. We’ll work on developing better tone, resonance, volume, and consistency; building a stronger, more rhythmic chop; and getting greater clarity and confidence when playing lead.

We are incredibly honored to welcome Scott to The Folk Farm. He is a truly remarkable musician and teacher, and this is a special opportunity to get an up-close look at the technique behind his playing.

Date: November 22nd, 2026

Time: 3-5pm workshop, 5-6pm jam

Where: Out West Garage, Petaluma CA

321 2nd St, Petaluma, CA 94952
